Q. What makes Renbukan Shito-Ryu different from other Karate?
 
A. This style has been handed down from Master Mabuni the founder of Shito Ryu to Master Fujiwara, and then to Master Iba. All senior Renbukan Instructors have trained with Master Iba. This has ensured that the style and training has not been changed to become more commercially viable like so many martial arts that rely on student numbers to maintain the cash flow of the dojo. Renbukan Shito-Ryu Karate is real Karate.
 
Q. How hard is the training ?
 
A. The training is hard, but the student only has to train as hard as they can sustain.  The object of the training is for the individual to progress over time, but without this desire then any training will fail to achieve the desired results. We help you help yourself.
 
Q. How long to get a black Belt ?
 
A. The object of training is to improve yourself, a grading is a reflection of your progress and will be awarded when the progress is sufficient. Normally for someone training three nights a week, the time frame is 3-5 years to gain a Black belt.
 
Q. Is Renbukan Shito-Ryu Karate Violent ?
 
A. No. Karate Do means the way of the Empty Hand. This means that the student trains to avoid trouble and live in harmony with their fellow man. Where this is not possible due to the particular circumstance, as a last resort, techniques can be used to protect oneself or loved ones.
Karate teaches how not to get hurt.
 
Q. Can my whole family train ?
 
A.  Yes. there is no reason that every one can’t benefit from Renbukan Shito-Ryu Karate from 5- 80 years old male or female.

Q. What is the most Important benefit of karate Training ?

A. Karate training gives different benefits at different stages of life. Young training should be hard and strong, technique should be developed and perfected whilst the body and mind are strong enough to learn from both physical and mental defeat. Older training should be about continuing to keep the mind and body healthy understanding that in your young time you could do many things, but allowing the young ones coming up to have their time.

Q. Is street defence necessary to test your training.

A. Karate Do means the way of the empty hand. This is the peaceful way of the warrior, humility, good manners, proper Etiquette are the best weapons to ensure a peaceful life. Street trouble will not come at a time of your choosing, and therefore your training and attitude will decide your fate. Avoid trouble, where possible, and train hard.

Q. Do you need to be fit to train Karate?

A. No you need to be healthy, but you get fit training Karate.

Q.  How long to get a Black belt in Karate?

A. Your Instructor is the best guide for this, as different people train at different paces, and different Dojos at different intensity. Generally 3-5 years for people who train consistently.

Q. What is the most important quality to look for in a Martial Arts Shihan ( Master)
  
A.  The Shihan ( Master) must be good person as well as good at Karate.

Q. What is the most important criteria for senior Black belts in a dojo.

A.  Senior grades should always be  trustworthy loyal students who have the best interests of their association at heart, or else they will always put their own interests ahead of their fellow students and their ability to learn the Martial Arts will be limited, therefore their worth as an instructor will be limited. 

Q. What age can you do Karate?

A.  from 5 – 100, depending on the individual attitude.

Q. What is the most important personal quality a student needs to study the art of Karate ?

A. The correct attitude, not hindered by ego, or unreal expectations.
